Narrative:
The Camarillo Police Department’s Community Resource Unit is advising the public that mail thefts are on the rise.
Since January 1, 2015, eighteen thefts of mail have been reported to the Camarillo Police Department. Some victims were not aware that their mail had been stolen until the Police Department contacted the victims about recovering their stolen mail. In one case, a female suspect had stolen mail in her possession from over 41 different victims throughout Ventura County.
Theft of mail is occurring everywhere, including in the industrial areas as well as your typical residential areas. The Camarillo Police Department would like to offer the following tips so that you won’t become a victim:
Stop your mail if you are going on vacation or will be gone for several days; Do not put your outgoing mail in your mailbox and lift up the flag, this will only alert thieves that there is outgoing mail in the box; Don’t let your mail sit in the mailbox and pile up; If you need to mail something, take your mail to the post office or place your mail in a secure mailbox.
If you observe suspicious activity in your neighborhood, please report this activity to the Camarillo Police Department immediately, by calling Sheriff’s Dispatch @ 654-9511.
