SCAM ALERT: Fraudulent fundraising in Norton Shores and Fruitport Township neighborhoods.

NSPD Scam Alert is a program intended to educate the public on recent scams we have investigated or common fraudulent activity.

Fraudulent Fundraising:

NSPD has received reports of a mom going door to door with a young girl claiming to be fundraising for her daughter to take a class trip to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. Witnesses indicate the suspect has claimed to be from both Campbell Elementary School and Shettler Elementary School. The female also claimed to be fundraising for a class trip to Cedar Point. The same suspect has been seen sending two girls door to door with the same sales technique.

The suspect provides catalogs to purchase home goods, candy, or magazines. Payment is requested as cash only.

Both schools report no fundraising activities by their schools for a trip to Chicago. Fruitport Police are investigating similar reports.

Suspect Information:

The suspect is described as a w/f, mid 20’s to 30’s, long dark hair, medium to heavy build.

The young girl is described as having long black hair and about 8-10 years old.

The suspect was seen driving a silver Pontiac Grand Prix.
