Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 03-03-15 at 6:43 p.m., Officer Nick Ottoboni and Officer Joshua McQuade were conducting a business check at the Royal Palace Inn on Geneva Avenue and were speaking with one of the guests. The officers observed the guest’s behavior and movements and believed he was under the influence of a controlled substance stimulant. Officer Ottoboni was speaking with the subject at the door when the subject quickly turned and slammed the door shut, striking the officer on the left hand and right shoulder with enough impact to knock him back a few steps. With the assistance of the hotel manager, officers were able to enter the subject’s room. Officers eventually arrested the 43-year old subject for battery on a peace officer, resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

On Thursday, 03-05-15 at 1:47 p.m., Officer Korey Sprader and Officer Brandon Scholes were on bicycle patrol in the area of Hanover Street and Templeton Avenue when they saw an occupied vehicle completely blocking the driveway of a residence. The passenger advised he was waiting for his friend who was in the nearby liquor store. The officers asked the subject if he had anything illegal on him, and he said he did not. The subject allowed the officer to search him, and the officer found an unusual amount of money in the subject’s pocket. They also found a backpack containing a .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol several zip lock baggies containing a white residue and. Officers subsequently arrested the subject, a 33-year old San Francisco resident, for being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed loaded firearm in a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a controlled substance while armed, and for possession of an unregistered firearm.

On Saturday, 03-07-15 at 3:35 p.m., Officer Karen Douglas conducted a traffic stop at Junipero Serra Boulevard and 88th Street on a vehicle for expired registration. In speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, Officer Douglas observed the passenger was fidgeting and speaking quickly and had a white foamy substance on the sides of his mouth. The officer asked the subject to remove his sunglasses and saw that his pupils were extremely constricted—one of the possible indicators of stimulant drug use. Officer Douglas asked the subject if she could take his pulse, and she observed it was over 100 beats per minute—the average being between 60-90 beats. The officer asked him if he anything illegal on him, and he pointed to his shirt pocket which contained a folded up clear baggie containing ten small clear baggies, each with a small amount of a white crystalline substance in it. The subject, a 34-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for transportation, possession, possession for sales of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Sunday, 03-08-15 between 7:33 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., two males, 18-19 years old, were the victims of an assault with a deadly weapon via firearm and shooting into an occupied vehicle as the vehicle was driving in the area of Bismark Street and Mission Street. The driver suffered a gunshot wound to his left wrist, causing a fracture. The suspects are unknown at this time, and this case has been assigned to investigators.

On Sunday, 03-08-15 at 10:15 p.m., Officer Tiffany Cook was dispatched to a parking garage on the unit block of Poncetta Drive on a report of a burglary in progress. Westlake Patrol advised they saw a subject attempting to break into the storage lockers and provided a description of the subject, as well as a female subject in his company. Officers were able to detain both subjects. The male subject, a 36-year old Richmond resident, was subsequently arrested for burglary, attempted burglary, conspiracy, identity theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance paraphernalia, possession of burglary tools, and possession of stolen property. The second subject, a 37-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for conspiracy, accessory, identity theft, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance paraphernalia. The investigation by detectives revealed there were at least 20-25 victims of burglary and identity theft.
