Friday, February 27, 2015, the Fredrick Police Department requested OSBI assist with investigation into the suspicious death of an 18-month-old child. The child’s mother and her boyfriend took the boy to a hospital in Fredrick because the child was unresponsive. The child was pronounced dead at that hospital after medical personnel tried for an hour to resuscitate him. The medical examiner’s office performed an autopsy and determined the child had a skull fracture and a subdural hematoma. He also had a bruise inside his lip, bruises on his forehead, bruises on the back of his head, and a bruised right ear. Based upon the findings of the autopsy, an OSBI agent filed a warrant for the arrest of the boy’s mother and her boyfriend. Today, Lawton police officers arrested Kelly Lea Fairchild (d.o.b. 3/24/1993) on one count of child neglect and Gregory Scott Miller, Jr. (d.o.b. 6/11/1987) for first degree murder. Miller told the agent he accidently stepped on the child the night the boy was taken to the hospital. The child’s mother told the agent the child was lethargic and slept most of the day Thursday, a day before his death.
