HCSO has eyes in the sky during the rodeo to help prevent car burglaries. And yes, it works!

(HOUSTON, TX) – Now that the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has officially started, so have the Harris County Sheriff’s Office’s efforts to prevent rodeo goers from becoming victims of crime.

One of those crimes is car break-ins which the HCSO’s Skywatch tower has helped drastically reduce.

In 2013, there were 34 burglaries of a motor vehicle reported at Reliant Park (now NRG Park). In 2014, the first year Skywatch was used at the location, only one burglary was reported.

Skywatch is a tower that rises to nearly 30 feet. It’s used at numerous events for proactive crime prevention and other patrol duties, including looking for suspects or missing persons, especially in areas that are heavily wooded or covered with brush.

Skywatch or no Skywatch the HCSO reminds you that almost anything left inside a vehicle can be valuable to a thief. And when vehicles are left unlocked and unattended, drivers are inviting thieves to walk away with everything they see inside.

So remember, HIDE, LOCK, and TAKE:
Remove belongings from view,
secure your vehicle, and
never leave the keys inside.

Now, go out and have some rodeo fun!
