Two Green Bay police officers are continuing to recover today after they were attacked Tuesday night by an armed man.

On February 24, 2015, at 7:31 p.m., Police Officers Matthew Dunn and Brian Krueger responded to an address in the 1500 block of Plymouth Lane for a “check the welfare” of Joseph Biegert, 30, who was reported to have taken an unknown amount of medication in an attempt to harm himself. P.O. Dunn, 24, who has two years of service with the department, and P.O. Krueger, 28, who has five years of service, made contact with Mr. Biegert in his apartment.

Dunn in the upper arm and also injured P.O. Krueger during the struggle. Both officers discharged their weapons to stop the threat. Biegert was struck and subsequently died at the scene. Both officers were transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital where they were treated for their injuries and released.
