Sergeant Mike Thomas Charitable Fund Established
The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation announces a new fund to raise proceeds to care for law enforcement officers injured in the line of duty.
Earlier this week, the community rallied around Sergeant Mike Thomas of the Jackson Police Department, who was violently assaulted while on duty late Sunday night. Thomas was making a quick stop at a North Highland gas station when Linda Coble, who was in a fight with her son, approached him. Her son, Cepeda Coble, then blindsided Sergeant Thomas, knocking him to the ground and violently beating him before fleeing the scene. Coble was later apprehended after resisting arrest.
Sergeant Thomas is in stable condition at the Jackson-Madison General Hospital, but faces extensive surgery to repair several facial fractures and other injuries sustained in the attack.
The police department was overwhelmed with a generous response from the community to help the Thomas family during this hard time.
The Foundation has established the Sergeant Mike Thomas Charitable Fund in an effort to help the family with medical costs and other expenses while Sergeant Thomas recovers.
Charitable donations can be sent by mail to the Foundation at 620 Skyline Drive, Jackson, Tennessee 38301 or online at wthfoundation.org
