On 2-20-2015, at about 6:25 pm, a Chula Vista Police Officer attempted to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 800 block of Hilltop Drive. The driver of the silver Honda failed to yield and led the officer on a pursuit throughout various portions of South Chula Vista. The pursuit travelled throughout the area of Telegraph Canyon Road and Interstate 805. At one point during the pursuit, the driver of the Honda entered north onto the south bound 805 off ramp at Telegraph Canyon Road. The pursuing Police units immediately terminated the pursuit due to the Honda entering the wrong way onto the off ramp. A short time later, Chula Vista Police Dispatch received calls of a traffic collision near Interstate 805 and E Street. The silver Honda collided with a vehicle travelling south on the 805. The California Highway Patrol and witnesses to the traffic collision were detaining the passenger of the silver Honda. The driver of the silver Honda was last seen running west from the freeway towards E Street. After a thorough search of the surrounding area, officers were unable to locate the suspect believed to be the driver of the silver Honda. The Chula Vista Police Department is investigating the pursuit.
The vehicle struck by the silver Honda was occupied by an adult male, an adult female and their 19 month old child. The 2 adults received minor injuries from the collision and were treated at the scene by medics. The child was transported to a local hospital for a precautionary evaluation. No other injuries were sustained from the collision. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the traffic collision and hit and run.
