Suspicious Death Investigation Ruled a Homicide

DATE: 02/18/2015

TIME: 1400 hours

TYPE OF CRIME: Homicide/ 187 PC

CASE #: 15-0783

LOCATION: 1400 Bay Tree Drive

VICTIM1: Heiser, Robert Joseph – 56 year old male, Gilroy Resident

PERSON OF INTEREST #1: Hispanic Female Adult, 18-25 years old, black hair wearing a black parka, black/white shirt and black plants.

PERSON OF INTEREST #2: Hispanic Female Adult, 18-25 years old, black hair, wearing a dark blue polo shirt and dark blue basketball shorts.

 

***Update***

Gilroy Police Detectives continue to investigate this incident around the clock. Based on preliminary information from both the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office; and police investigators, foul play is suspected in this death. This suspicious death investigation is being classified as a homicide, pending cause and method from the Medical Examiner’s Office. The victim has been identified as 56 year old Robert Joseph Heiser, a city of Gilroy Resident. It is believed that an unknown suspect(s) murdered Mr. Heiser in his home on or about February 16, 2015.

The Gilroy Police Department is asking the public’s assistance with the identification of the two persons of interests depicted in the photographs and video. These two females were last seen in East San Jose Area Businesses in possession of property belonging to the deceased.

In effort to identify the persons of interest, a tip line has been established to make investigators available. Anyone with information leading to the identification of the two females, or any other information relating to this crime is urged to call (408) 846-0330.

This is the first homicide for 2015 occurring in the City of Gilroy. There is no information at this point that would warrant any public safety concern.

Details: On February 16, 2015 at approximately 2:59 am, Gilroy Police Officers responded to a residence on the 1400 Block of Bay Tree Drive for a loud noise call. Officers arrived a short-time after and located an unconscious male. Gilroy Fire Department emergency medical personnel also arrived and initiated lifesaving efforts on the victim. These efforts were met with negative results. He was pronounced deceased on scene by Gilroy Fire Personnel.

This investigation is on-going and being treated as a suspicious death. Investigators continue to gather facts, interview witnesses and are currently evaluating a variety of leads. The victim’s identity is being withheld until proper notifications are made.
