DUI AVOID Campaign Warrant Sweep Nets 4 Arrests

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On 02-11-15, between the hours of 2 PM and 7 PM, officers from the Angels Camp Police Department and the Sonora Police Department participated in a warrant sweep, as part of a joint DUI "AVOID the 2" Campaign that both agencies participate in. This DUI AVOID Campaign is possible due to grant funding by the CA Office of Traffic Safety, and specifically targets DUI offenders. This operation was focused on prior DUI offenders with active warrants for their arrest for DUI related offenses, and teams of officers went to various locations throughout the county in an attempt to locate and arrest the violators. During the five-hour operation, four arrests were made.
1) Mario Raymond Espinoza Jr., a fifty-nine-year-old Copperopolis resident, was arrested on three (3) outstanding warrants, one of which was issued by the Tuolumne County Superior Court. Charges on the warrants were related to driving on a suspended driver license, felony DUI, and misdemeanor DUI.
2) Roger Earl Brown, a sixty-seven-year-old Angels Camp resident, was arrested on a 1992 Calaveras County Superior Court warrant, for charges related to misdemeanor DUI.
3) Brian James Lujan, a twenty-eight-year-old Copperopolis resident, was arrested on three (3) outstanding warrants, for charges related to violation of probation, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, and DUI.
4) Timothy Phillip Engleman, a forty-three-year-old Copperopolis resident, was arrested on two (2) outstanding warrants, one from 2009 and one from 2010, for charges related to DUI, driving on a suspended driver license, domestic violence, and violation of a domestic violence restraining order.
The CA Office of Traffic Safety "AVOID The 2" DUI Campaign is in effect through September of 2015, and more Warrant Sweeps, DUI Checkpoints, and DUI Saturation Patrols will be occurring during this time.
