PRESS INFORMATION

INCIDENT: 2015-4129

DATE & TIME OCCURRED: 02/13/2015 0254 hours

LOCATION OCCURRED: 996 Alexander Road West Windsor, NJ 08550 The Gables at West Windsor

WHO: (ARRESTED, INJURED, DRIVER, VICTIM, OTHER)
Arrested: Fredrick W. Kane, 66 years old, last known to reside in Canton, MA

OFFICER: Ptl. S. Van Ness and Detective D. Jelinski

DETAILS: At approximately 0254 hours, a fire alarm was received for 996 Alexander Road. When police and fire units arrived at the scene they found an activated sprinkler head in the vestibule of the building and smoke in the building. Further investigation revealed a small fire which was extinguished by the sprinkler system. While at the scene, police units found Mr. Fredrick W. Kane in the building and were alerted by the building manager that he did not belong in the building. Through investigation, it was determined that the fire was started by Mr. Kane and he was placed under arrest. Mr. Kane was charged with Burglary, Arson, Criminal Mischief, Causing or Risking Wide Spread Injury or Damage, Unsworn Falsification, and Obstruction of the Administration of Law. He was lodged at the Mercer County Correction Center in default of $100,000.00 bail.

The fire departments checked the building for fire extension and cleared smoke from the upper floors. The Princeton Junction Volunteer Fire Company, West Windsor Volunteer Fire Company and the Plainsboro Volunteer Fire Company responded to the fire.
