Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 02-02-15 at 6:36 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Mission Street and Westlake Avenue on a report of five males knocking over trash cans. Officer Bruce Perdomo saw that Officer Rodney Chittenden was talking to a subject who kept moving his hands from his front pockets to the small of his back. Officer Perdomo asked the subject what his name was, and the subject became uncooperative. Officer Perdomo was attempting to pat down the subject to see if he had any weapons when the subject refused to put his hands behind his back. The officer subsequently arrested the subject, a 19-year old Daly City resident, for obstructing/resisting a police officer.

On Tuesday, 02-03-15 at 4:44 p.m., Officer Benjamin Riney and Officer Sean Begley were dispatched to the area of the parking lot of Dick’s Sporting Goods on a report of an interrupted auto burglary involving three subjects. While enroute to the call, Sergeant Mike Brennan made a traffic stop on a vehicle with three people matching the general description of the subjects as the vehicle was leaving the parking lot. The victim positively identified the subjects. Officers arrested the first subject, a 21-year old female San Francisco resident, for burglary and criminal conspiracy. The second subject, a 23-year old female San Francisco resident, was arrested for the same charges and for possession of stolen property. The third subject, an 18-year old male San Francisco resident, was arrested for burglary, criminal conspiracy and for committing a felony while out on bail. The last two subjects were also primary suspects in a robbery case in San Francisco, in which an elderly couple was violently robbed the week prior.

On Tuesday, 02-03-15 at 5:17 p.m., Officer Cameron Newton and Officer Joshua McQuade were on patrol and noticed several subjects standing outside a parked mini-van in the Macy’s parking lot. The mini-van rental car was reported stolen from San Jose, and the officers asked the seven subjects to sit on the curb. Officers found a pistol magazine on the floor board. One of the subjects, a 20-year old New York City resident, was responsible for possessing the embezzled vehicle and was arrested. The other subjects were released.

On Sunday, 02-08-15 at 4:21 p.m., Officer Katie Scoles was dispatched to the front desk of the police station to meet with a 21-year old Daly City resident who said he was the victim of threats and brandishing of a gun by two subjects. This threat occurred via the social media site “Instagram”. The victim said he used to be friends with both of the subjects, and the threats caused him to fear for his safety as well as the safety of his family. The victim showed Officer Scoles the video on “Instagram”, in which the subjects were walking towards the camera, one subject holding a small handgun. Another subject was also seen in the video. One subject then called the victim by his name and threatened him as he held the gun to the camera and pulled back the slide of the gun, releasing it several times. The victim also showed the officer several other photos of the subjects on “Instagram”, with threatening posts. Through an investigation, detectives arrested the subjects, an 18-year old Daly City resident, a 20-year old San Francisco resident and a 21-year old San Francisco resident, for criminal threats, conspiracy, and exhibiting a firearm.

On Sunday, 02-08-15 at 7:31 p.m., Officer Karen Douglas was dispatched to a residence on the unit block of Marshall Way on the report of a physical fight that occurred earlier in the morning. A 46-year old resident was the victim of battery by her 21-year old niece who was trying to push her way into the home. The resident’s 90-year old grandmother was nearly pushed down a flight of stairs as the niece was trying to push her way into the home. No one was injured, and the case is being forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for a complaint.

The property stolen was an iPad, two pairs of designer sunglasses, two designer purses, a rare coin collection and an unknown make black digital camera. The lower unit 90-year old resident reported seeing a Hispanic male, 30 years old, 5’7”, 130 lbs., short “buzzed” black hair with no facial hair, wearing a brown dress shirt and brown slacks near their residence.
