In The Time It Takes You to Read This, Someone’s Bicycle Was Stolen. National Bike Registry. #SCV

Both the City of Santa Clarita and the County of Los Angeles are dedicated to providing the infrastructure for a safe and fun bicycling experience to our entire valley.  Whether you are commuting to work or taking a weekend bike ride with your friends and family, there are miles of bicycle lanes, trails, and paseos available within the Santa Clarita Valley.

With the popularity of bicycling in the Santa Clarita Valley comes the potential for theft.  Cable locks are often found cut with wire cutters when heavier weight U-bolt type bicycle locks are not used.  Bicycles locked to fencing, or in underground sub-garages are prime targets.  Approximately 95% of the bicycles stolen in the Santa Clarita Valley have no serial number on the report because the owners do not have them documented.

Since 1984, the National Bike Registry (NBR®) has been working with law enforcement to return stolen bikes to their rightful owners.  A bike registered with NBR, the only true national database, can be identified by police and returned to you instead of being sold at a police auction.  Owners who choose to register their bicycles in the National Bike Registry will receive certificate of registration and a tamper-resistant NBR label to identify your bike.  If your bike is ever stolen and recovered, no matter where, it can be returned to you.

Many stolen bikes are recovered by law enforcement but there is no way to identify the owner.  With the NBR service, you can register your bicycle by serial number in the national database and apply the special label you receive to your bike.  If your bike is ever stolen, it can be identified and you can prove ownership.  Law Enforcement anywhere can access the NBR database to advise the owner their bike has been recovered.

NBR is an official licensee of the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC). Please visit www.nationalbikeregistry.com or call 1-800-848-BIKE (2453) for further information.

Locally please visit www.bikesantaclarita.com for information from the City of Santa Clarita
