January 26th
Auto Burglary- 225 El Cerrito Plaza, Trader Joes:
Around 0830 hours, an unknown suspect shattered the window of a Mercedes and stole a backpack containing books.
Burglary- 1000 Block of King Dr:
At 1233 hours, officers responded to burglar alarm activation at a residence. Upon arrival on scene officers discovered an unknown suspect shattered window, entered the residence and then fled with a laptop.
Vehicle Theft- 7600 Block of Leviston Ave:
A citizen reports an unknown suspect stole a 2002 Toyota Rav 4 between 01/25 at 2200 hours and 01/26 at 0800 hours.
Possession of Stolen Property- 540 Ashbury Ave., El Cerrito High School
At 1200 hours, officers contacted a 15 year-old student from El Cerrito who was reportedly smoking marijuana in the south end of town. During the contact, the officers discovered the juvenile was in possession of a Social Security card and pearl necklace which were stolen during a residential burglary on Pomona Ave. on 01/05. The student was booked at the ECPD and then released to his mother.
Battery- 11555 San Pablo Ave., Dollar Store:
At 1657 hours, officers responded to the Dollar Store on the report of a person striking the store’s security guard. Officers located and arrested the suspect, a 28 year-old Pittsburg man at the BART station. The security only sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault. The suspect was booked at the ECPD and then released with a citation.
Warrant Arrest- CVS Pharmacy 10650 San Pablo Avenue
At 2221 hours, an officer responded to a report of three men possibly vandalizing a vending machine in front of the business. The officer contacted two men and arrested a 45 year old transient man for an outstanding warrant from San Francisco Sheriff’s Office for a weapons charge. The officer booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported him to the county jail in Martinez.
Attempted Robbery- BART path and Lincoln Avenue
At 2323 hours, the victim was riding his bicycle northbound on the BART path approaching Lincoln Avenue. Three suspects emerged from a vehicle and approached the victim and demanded money. The victim rode away but was followed by the suspects in their vehicle. The victim eluded the suspects and no property was taken.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle- Staples Parking Lot 11545 San Pablo Avenue
At 0106 hours, an officer conducted a records check on a parked Toyota Prius in the parking lot. The vehicle was reported stolen to BART PD two days earlier. The officer processed the vehicle for evidence and then released the vehicle to the owner at the scene.
Warrant Arrest- Kearney Street and Wall Avenue
At 0233 hours, an officer contacted two subjects in a suspicious vehicle parked on Kearney Street. The officer arrested a 27 year old man from Berkeley for a warrant for violating the terms of his parole. The officer booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported him to the county jail in Martinez.
Warrant Arrest- Trader Joes 225 El Cerrito Plaza
At 0315 hours, an officer was conducting a security check of the El Cerrito Plaza and contacted a suspicious person loitering in the parking lot. The officer arrested the 29 year old transient man for a warrant held by San Francisco PD. The officer booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and then released him with a citation and a new court date.
January 27th
Vehicle Theft- 1500 Block of Kearney St:
A Community Service Officer recovered a stolen Volkswagen Beetle which was reported stolen to the San Pablo Police Department on 01/08.
Forgery- 11382 San Pablo Ave., Atlas Liquors
At 1701 hours, a 44 year-old woman from Richmond entered the liquor store and attempted to cash a check which was reported stolen. The female fled the scene before officers arrived, but left behind her California Driver license.
Grand Theft- Verizon Wireless 410 El Cerrito Plaza
At 1853 hours, officers responded to Verizon Wireless for a report of a theft. Two unknown suspects entered the store and stole two iPhones and an iPad and fled eastbound through the plaza.
Robbery/Battery/Resisting Police/Drunk in Public/ and Dissuading a Witness from Calling 911
At 1950 hours, Officers responded to multiple calls from businesses at the El Cerrito Plaza regarding a group of juveniles causing a disturbance. After urinating on a trash can, the juveniles were asked to leave by a plaza security guard. The juveniles harassed the guard and when he attempted to call 911 they tried to prohibit him from calling by stealing his phone. The juveniles split up and fled but most were contacted by an officer in front of Rubios restaurant. However a 19 year old man from El Cerrito who was part of the group had returned to find the security guard and struck him in the head. A responding Sergeant witnessed this crime and a foot pursuit ensued. The man was taken into custody by additional officers responding to the incident. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported to the county jail in Martinez.
Attempted Burglary- Barnes and Noble Books 6050 El Cerrito Plaza
At 0221 hours, officers responded to the plaza for a report of a burglary in progress. An alert tow truck driver in the area heard banging sounds and located a suspect attempted to break the front window with a chair. When officers arrived they arrested the 33 year old man from Oakland. The officer booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported him to the county jail in Martinez.
January 28th
Petty Theft- 11450 San Pablo Ave., Safeway
At 1152 hours, an officer responded to Safeway to assist store security with a person they had detained for shoplifting alcohol. The officer took custody of the subject, a 57 year-old man from El Cerrito and booked him at the ECPD. Upon the completion of booking the man was released with a citation.
Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol- 10562 San Pablo Ave:
At 1600 hours, officers responded to the listed location on the report of a non-injury vehicle collision. Once on scene, officers noticed one of the drivers was heavily intoxicated. The driver, a 64 year-old El Cerrito man was subsequently arrested and booked at the ECPD.
Public Intoxication and Violation of the Terms of Probation- Atlas Liquors 11382 San Pablo Avenue
At 2148 hours, an officer noticed a 37 year old man who is on probation standing in front of the liquor store. The officer is aware that the subject has a stay away order from that specific store and is not allowed to come within 100 yards of the store. The officer contacted the man and found him to be extremely intoxicated. The officer arrested the man and booked him at the El Cerrito Police Department before transporting him to the county jail in Martinez.
Public Intoxication- Creekside Park
At 2053 hours, an officer conducted a security check of Creekside Park and found a group of juveniles loitering in the playground area. The juveniles attempted to elude the officer by leaving along a pedestrian path next to the creek. The officer detained them on Adams Street when they emerged from the path and found that two of them were intoxicated. The officer issued citations to all four subjects for being in the park after hours. The two intoxicated juveniles also received citations for public intoxication. The subjects were then released to their parents at the scene.
Driving Under the Influence- Fairmount Avenue and Richmond Street
At 0116 hours, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and suspected the driver was impaired. The officer conducted field sobriety tests and then arrested the 40 year old woman from Albany for DUI. The officer booked the woman at the El Cerrito Police Department and then released her with a citation to a sober friend.
January 29th
Shoplifting- 11450 San Pablo Ave., Safeway
At 1000 hours, an officer responded to Safeway to assist store security with a person who they had detained for shoplifting. The officer arrived on scene and took custody of a 20 year-old transient man who stole seventy dollars worth of alcohol. The man was booked at the ECPD and then cited.
Shoplifting- 11450 San Pablo Ave., Safeway
At 1543 hours, Safeway security arrested a 27 year-old man from Richmond for stealing alcohol and snacks. An officer responded, took custody of the man and then transported him to the ECPD for booking. The man was then released with a citation.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle- 5200 Block of Victor Ave:
At 1629 hours, a victim called the ECPD to report they had located their stolen 1997 Honda Accord unoccupied at the above listed location. The vehicle was processed for evidence and then released to the owner.
Driving Under the Influence- Central Avenue and Carlson Boulevard
At 0047 hours, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and suspected the driver was impaired. The officer conducted field sobriety tests and then arrested the 52 year old man from Oakland for DUI and for driving under the influence while on probation for an earlier DUI arrest in 2012. The officer booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and then released him with a citation to a sober friend.
Driving Under the Influence- Fairmount Avenue and Ramona Avenue
At 0258 hours, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and suspected the driver was impaired. The officer conducted field sobriety tests and then arrested the 30 year old man from San Pablo for DUI. The officer booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and then released him with a citation to a sober friend.
