Advisory

#LASD, Newborn Baby Girl Found in Stable Condition, Lakewood

Detectives in Lakewood are investigating the discovery of a newborn infant found abandoned this morning at approximately 6:00 am.  An unidentified passerby heard noises coming from an area behind a wall near Hardwick Street and Lakewood Boulevard, Lakewood.

Thankfully, he checked further and discovered a baby girl, who appeared to be only a few hours old.  He took the newborn infant to a nearby fire station, where Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics administered treatment to her and transported her to Long Beach Memorial Hospital. She is listed in stable condition.

The Sheriff's Department would like to remind the public that California has a Safe Haven Law in place.  A newborn may be dropped off at a designated "safe surrender site" within the first 72 hours.  Designated sites,  hospitals and fire stations, will accept the newborn  with no questions asked. Unfortunately in this case, we are now investigating a child endangerment incident.

Although we are investigating a crime, we are concerned about the mother's health and well being.  We urge her to seek follow up treatment from a qualified medical professional.

Detectives remain at the scene processing evidence.   Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at Lakewood Sheriff's Station at (562) 623-3500.  Or if you wish to remain anonymous, call “LA Crime Stoppers” by dialing 800-222-TIPS (8477), or text the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637,) or by using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.

Lakewood Sheriff’s Station provides law enforcement services to the cities of Lakewood, Paramount, Bellflower, Hawaiian Gardens, Artesia, and unincorporated communities in Long Beach and Cerritos.
