Notable Cases

On Wednesday, 01-28-15 at 8:40 a.m., a 50-year old male Daly City resident was the victim of indecent exposure by a subject described as a Hispanic male between 18-23 years old, 5’5”, 140 lbs., wearing a black zip-up jacket and black jeans. This occurred on the third floor parking lot behind Home Depot. The victim said the unknown subject exposed himself and made hand gestures towards him. The case is suspended due to a lack of investigative leads.

Later that evening on Wednesday, 01-28-15 at 7:45 p.m., a 44-year old Daly City resident said she was the victim of an indecent exposure by an unknown subject. This occurred near the intersection of Mission Street and Evergreen Avenue. The suspect in this case is described as a Hispanic or Middle Eastern male, late 20’s/early 30’s, short black hair, dark eyes, light facial hair (mustache/beard) and wearing a white tee shirt. The suspect was driving an early model white Honda Civic.

Following a probation search on a residence on Clearview Drive on Wednesday, 01-28-15 at 5:43 p.m., officers arrested a 55-year old male resident on probation for possession of an explosive device and for a probation violation.

On Thursday, 01-29-15 at 5:00 p.m., three subjects stole three cell phones worth over $2,000 by using wire cutters to remove them from the display shelf at the T-Mobile kiosk at the Serramonte Shopping Center. The three subjects fled in a white Infinity SUV that had dealer license plates. The subjects were described as two black males, mid 20’s, 6’0”-6’2”, one with a skinny build, one with a thick build, and a black female in her mid 20’s, 5’10”, 160 lbs. and had straight hair. At the same time, a mall security officer saw a white Infiniti SUV illegally parked in a disabled space next to the wing entry/exit of the T-Mobile kiosk. The security officer wrote down the VIN and the temporary license number on the sticker in front of the window. Soon after, the security officer saw the three subjects run out of the mall and into that SUV. Dispatchers were able to determine that the vehicle was bought from an East Bay-based car dealership two days prior and obtained the name of the buyer. The buyer was a 24-year old Antioch resident who was the primary suspect in two previous commercial burglaries that occurred at cell phone stores. Officers showed the witnesses a photo lineup with the suspect picture depicted, and all three witnesses identified the suspect. Officers later went to the suspect’s home in Antioch and arrested him for commercial burglary, criminal conspiracy and possession of burglary tools. The other subjects are still at large.

On Sunday, 02-01-15 at 8:20 p.m., a 27-year old Belmont resident said she was the victim of a strong arm robbery of her cell phone by her boyfriend, following a domestic dispute between the two of them. The suspect was currently released on bail for an incident that occurred a week prior. The suspect fled in his mother’s vehicle with the victim’s cell phone. The following day, Detective Lilian Tashiro responded to the 4300 block of Callan Boulevard, the area of the suspect’s residence, and saw the subject driving the vehicle involved in the robbery. Detective Tashiro followed stopped the vehicle and handcuffed the subject, a 28-year old Daly City resident. Detective Tashiro found two glass pipes in the subject’s pants pockets. The pipes are commonly used to ingest controlled substances. The subject admitted to being a narcotic user and to having an altercation with his girlfriend. Based on the victim and suspect’s statements, Detective Tashiro arrested the subject for strong arm robbery and for false imprisonment. (He purposely blocked the victim’s vehicle by using his vehicle, tire jack and also attempted to let the air out of the tires to prevent her from leaving.)

There were thirteen cases involving narcotics possession/use this past week.

Scams/Other

I.R.S. Scam

Last week one of our residents reported that she received a phone message on her answering machine from someone claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service and advised the I.R.S. would be filing a lawsuit if she did not call them. The resident did not call back, as she knew she her status was clear and thinks this is most likely the scam going around that I have mentioned previously. Please remember that you will not be receiving phone calls from the I.R.S. regarding tax issues.
