SUSPECT: Francis Murphy Rose III, age 42 a resident of the unincorporated area of Apple Valley
VICTIM(s): San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies

The suspect has been identified as Frances Murphy Rose, III, age 42 a resident of the unincorporated area of Apple Valley.
The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available for release.

On Monday, February 2, 2015, at approximately 6:21 p.m., deputies from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station and the sheriff’s desert helicopter were dispatched to a residence in the 9000 block of Buena Vista in the county area of Apple Valley following multiple 911 calls that shots were being fired in the area. Deputies responded to the location and the suspect began firing at the deputies in the helicopter and the deputies that had responded in patrol units. Deputies on the ground returned fire and the suspect was struck. Fire personnel responded to the location and pronounced the suspect deceased on scene.
Detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Homicide Detail responded to the location and are conducting the investigation. The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time pending identification and notification of next of kin. Nearby residents and responding deputies were not injured during this incident.
