SUSPECTED DAYTIME BURGLAR CAPTURED

Modesto, CA - Police arrested a burglar early Wednesday afternoon after a short foot pursuit in northeast Modesto. The man arrested was wanted for his involvement in a separate burglary as well.

At about 1:00 PM police received a 9-1-1 call from a teenage resident in the 2300 block of McRitchie Way. She said a man had knocked on her front door and, when she didn’t answer, he went to the back yard and attempted to break in. The suspect fled just prior to the arrival of the responding officers and detectives.

On Wednesday detectives from the Modesto Police Department Economic and Property Crimes Unit were patrolling the streets in addition to the normally assigned patrol personnel. When the call was received several detectives in unmarked cars responded along with detectives and patrol personnel in marked black and white patrol cars.

A patrol officer spotted a man riding a bicycle near Peppermint Drive and Oakdale Road, The man matched the description of that given by the resident and they attempted to stop him as he rode northbound on Oakdale Road.

The man, identified as 20-year-old Modesto resident Joseph Park, was recognized by the first arriving detective as the person wanted in a separate vehicle burglary. Within moments Park ran from the officers and detectives. Park was taken into custody in the 2100 block of Wylie Drive after the use of a taser.

Park was identified by the resident as the man responsible for the attempted burglary in the 2300 block of McRitchie Way. Park was booked at the Stanislaus County Jail for attempted residential burglary, vehicle burglary (prior offense), and resisting arrest.
