Man Uses Knife in Armed Robbery Attempt

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook is releasing surveillance pictures of a suspect accused of using a knife in an attempt to rob a local store.

The incident occurred yesterday morning shortly before noon at the ‘Buckle’ clothing store located at 100 Columbiana Circle (Columbiana Centre).

The female clerk says the man threatened her with a kitchen knife as she opened a dressing room for him. He then allegedly demanded money from the register.

When the clerk was not able to open the register, the suspect left the store. No one was hurt during the incident.

CPD Investigators are investigating a similar incident at the ‘Zumiez’ clothing store also located inside Columbiana Centre last week (January 22).

In this case, the clerk tells CPD that the suspect waited to commit his crime until a customer left the store. Then the suspect allegedly used a kitchen knife to steal money from the register.
The robber allegedly forced the clerk to lie down on the ground before he left the store on foot.

No one was injured during this robbery.

While there are similarities between the two cases, CPD continues to determine if the same suspect committed both crimes.

CPD is also working with law enforcement partners in Myrtle Beach and North Charleston on similar crimes to determine if the incidents are connected or not.
