On Tuesday, 01-20-15 at 11:00 a.m., a 93-year old Daly City resident was the victim of a theft of a large amount of jewelry from her home. The victim said a man entered her residence on Bismark Street through an open garage door while she was picking up a box outside and told her he was with the Water Department. The victim said the man said there was a broken pipe down the street and urine in the water. The suspect turned on the water in the garage and then led the woman to her backyard and had her run the water hose, telling he her he was flushing out the pipes. The victim said she left a pot on the stove upstairs and didn’t want it to overboil. The suspect said he’d go upstairs to turn off the stove and quickly returned. Later that day, the victim realized a pouch in her dresser wasn’t in the right place and then realized some of her jewelry was missing. The victim said the suspect was on the cell phone and believed another subject went upstairs while she was talking to the first suspect and took jewelry from inside the residence. The first suspect is described as a white male between 18-23 years old, approximately 6’0” tall, 250 lbs with a “husky build”, slicked back hair and wearing a black “letterman” jacket and dark pants. The victim could not describe the second subject.
Several of these types of crimes have been popping up in the peninsula, as well as San Francisco. Please be advised that the Daly City Water Department does not show up at a residence unannounced unless specifically called or to report an emergency shutdown. Water Department employees only enter a residence when requested and accompanied by the resident. Moreover, Water Department employees wear an official uniform. Please pass the word and do NOT let anyone in your house without first verifying their legitimacy.
