Alert

Winter Storm Warning in effect for Hunterdon Cty from 12PM 1/26/15 until 6PM 1/27/15. 14-24 inches of snow expected in the warned area.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Hunterdon County beginning at noon on Monday and continuing through Tuesday. The NWS is forecasting 14-24 inches of snow being possible within the areas warned. This event has the potential to deliver crippling effects to the region, as much of the state's snow forecast is measured in feet.

TIMING: SNOW DEVELOPS BETWEEN MIDNIGHT TONIGHT AND 5 AM MONDAY, THEN IT CONTINUES THROUGH THE DAY. THE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES LATE MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING WHEN SNOWFALL RATES OF A COUPLE OF INCHES PER HOUR CAN OCCUR AT TIMES, THEN TAPER OFF DURING TUESDAY AFTERNOON.

That being said, you should avoid traveling during the Monday evening commute and all day Tuesday. Again, be home prior to the Monday evening commute. If you choose to travel during this time, understand that conditions statewide will be extremely poor (even more likely the further east you are where Blizzard Warnings have been issued). If you choose to travel during this time, you will run the risk of being stranded and should prepare yourself and vehicle accordingly. We ask that you leave the roads clear so that snow removal and emergency service crews can safely operate.

IMPACTS: SOME IMPACT ON THE MONDAY MORNING COMMUTE, THEN SIGNIFICANT AND WIDESPREAD IMPACTS THEREAFTER. AREAS OF BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL ADD TO THE HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS.

Power outages may become an issue during this event. Even if power is lost, due to anticipated road conditions, you should be prepared to shelter in your home for at least 72 hours. This includes having an adequate supply of water, food and medications. If you have a generator, know how to operate it safely and have extra fuel on hand. As always we urge everyone to use flashlights over candles due to risk of fire. Be sure to have fresh batteries for these devices. Charge all laptops, tablets and cell phones in advance so they are prepared should power be lost.

...A MAJOR WINTER STORM WILL IMPACT OUR AREA MONDAY INTO TUESDAY...

.LOW PRESSURE WILL TRACK FROM THE OHIO VALLEY TO THE MID ATLANTIC
TONIGHT AND MONDAY MORNING BRINGING MAINLY SOME LIGHT SNOW TO MUCH
OF THE REGION. THIS STORM WILL THEN RAPIDLY INTENSIFY INTO A
NOR`EASTER LATE MONDAY. THERE IS STILL SOME UNCERTAINTY WITH THE
DETAILS, MAINLY FOR THE WESTERN AND SOUTHWESTERN AREAS OF OUR
REGION. THIS STORM IS EXPECTED TO RESULT IN DETERIORATING
CONDITIONS AS WE GO THROUGH MONDAY INTO TUESDAY, WITH WIDESPREAD
TRAVEL IMPACTS EXPECTED.
