BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT; SNOW EMERGENCY DECLARED FOR HOBOKEN

** Parking prohibited on snow emergency routes; Discounted garage parking available **

The City of Hoboken Office of Emergency Management has declared a snow emergency in advance of a major winter storm forecast to impact our area. The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for a "crippling and possibly historic blizzard" from Monday, January 26 at 1:00pm through midnight on Tuesday, January 27. Snow accumulations of 20 to 30 inches or more, wind gusts up to 65 mph, life-threatening conditions, and extremely dangerous travel are forecast.

PARKING PROHIBITED ON SNOW ROUTES
Parking is prohibited on all snow emergency routes effective 9:00pm on January 25, 2015 until further notice. Vehicles are subject to towing. This is necessary to move police, fire and ambulances for the safety and welfare of all our citizens.

In addition, parking is prohibited on both sides of Vezzetti Way (parallel to Observer Highway). The area will be used for dumping snow.

Alternate side parking regulations are suspended until further notice. All other parking regulations remain in effect.

Snow Emergency Routes:
• Washington Street - Both Sides
• Willow Avenue (West Side) – Observer Hwy to 11th St
• 3rd Street (North Side) – Jackson St to River St
• 4th Street (South Side) – River St to Jackson St
• 5th Street (South Side) – Clinton St to Hudson St
• 9th Street (North Side) – Clinton St to Hudson St
• 13th Street (North Side) – Washington St to Willow Ave
• 17th Street (Both Sides)

Parking is also prohibited on the north side of 13th Street from Willow Avenue to Madison Street.

Strong winds and poor visibility will lead to whiteout conditions making travel extremely dangerous. Motorists are urged not to travel. Stranded vehicles will hinder snow clearing and emergency response operations. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you.

DISCOUNTED GARAGE PARKING
The City of Hoboken is providing reduced rate $5 per day parking in municipal Garage B (located on 2nd Street between Hudson and River Streets) and Garage D (215 Hudson Street) for residents with a valid Resident parking permit or Temporary parking permit placard beginning Sunday, January 25 at 8:00pm through Tuesday, January 27 at 8:00pm. In addition, Hoboken residents with disabilities who possess either a handicapped license plate or hang tag for their permitted vehicle may also park in the Midtown garage (371 4th Street) for the same reduced rate. Garage parking space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. When discounted parking is offered, garages frequently fill before the start of the discount period. Residents who wish to park in the garage outside of the discounted hours will be charged the regular garage fees during non-discount hours.

EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER
The City will open an Emergency Operations Center starting on Monday, January 26 at 3:00pm. Residents may call the Command Center at 201-420-2230 to report unplowed streets, unshoveled sidewalks, or other non-emergency issues. Please do not call the Police Department with non-emergency issues. For all emergencies, please call 911.

WARMING CENTER
Due to the cold weather and potential for power outages, the Hoboken Community Emergency Response Team and OEM will open a warming center at the Wallace School, located at 1100 Willow Avenue, from Monday, January 26 at 3:00pm until Tuesday, January 27 at 4:00pm.

SIDEWALKS
Property owners/occupants are reminded that they have six hours after the completion of a storm to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property, along with adjoining wheelchair ramps or curb cuts. Snow and ice must be cleared from gutters a width of 2 feet into the street. It is illegal to shovel snow back into the street or on a fire hydrant. Residents in multi-unit buildings with management companies should ensure that they are aware of City regulations in order to avoid fines. Residents are encouraged to assist elderly or disabled neighbors and to clear snow from fire hydrants. Additional details on city code regarding snow removal for property owners can be found at www.hobokennj.org/snow.

TRASH PICKUP SUSPENDED
Recycling pickup will not take place for Monday night. Please keep all recycling indoors.

SECURE ALL LOOSE OBJECTS
Wind gusts up to 65 miles per hour are forecast. Be sure your property (including construction sites) is secure. Bring in unsecured objects from patios and balconies and secure outdoor objects such as lawn furniture or garbage cans that could blow away and cause damage or injury.

TAXIS, LIMOS & HOP
Taxis and limos without snow tires or chains will be banned from operating once conditions are deemed unsafe by the Office of Emergency Management. The Hop shuttle will also suspend operations at that time.

MUNICIPAL OFFICES OPEN
City of Hoboken municipal offices will be open on January 26, 2015.
