Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Bureau responded to the Harbor (110) Freeway, south of the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, Los Angeles, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the escape of an inmate from a patrol car on Friday, January 23, 2015 at approximately 8:50 p.m.

Detectives learned that the inmate was being transported from Compton Court to the Inmate Reception Center by Sheriff’s deputies. The inmate became violent and started hitting his head on the window. The deputies were attempting to subdue the inmate when he escaped their custody. The inmate descended down a hillside along the freeway and ran in an unknown direction.

Sheriff’s Department personnel, along with the assistance of Los Angeles Police Department launched an extensive search of the area. Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau’s K-9 was utilized in the search and located the inmate approximately 100 yards from the freeway. He was taken into custody without further incident at approximately 11:45 p.m. this evening.
