When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.


Notable Cases

On Monday, 01-12-15 at 11:53 p.m., Officer Joshua Moala conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a license plate violation on Mission Street near Citrus Avenue. Both the driver and passenger provided false names to the officer and said they just purchased the vehicle a couple hours prior. A search of the vehicle revealed that both subjects had purchased the vehicle fraudulently. Officers found numerous credit cards not belong to the subjects in the subject’s possession. Both were arrested for identity theft and forgery of access cards. The driver, a 31-year old Pacifica resident, was arrested for identity theft, forgery of access cards, false impersonation, providing false identification to a police officer, driving with a suspended driver's license and for an outstanding warrant. The passenger, a 25-year old Anderson resident, was arrested for identity theft, forgery of access cards, possession of methamphetamine and possession of controlled substance paraphernalia.

On Tuesday, 01-13-15 at 12:19 a.m., Officer Jay Mulitauopele was dispatched to Southgate Avenue and Lakeshire Drive on a report of a hit and run collision. The driver rear ended the victim vehicle and then walked away from the scene. At the time the officer was investigating this collision, dispatch received a call about an unknown subject sleeping on a couch in a house on the 200 block of Westmoor Avenue. The subject who was sleeping on the couch was the same subject who walked away from the collision site. The victim driver was able to identify the subject. The subject said he didn’t know how he got into the residence, and that he had a problem with alcohol. Officers arrested the 26-year old Daly City resident for burglary, receiving stolen property, hit and run, driving with a suspended license and for driving under the influence.

On Wednesday, 01-14-15 at 11:51 p.m., Officer Lucas Taylor was driving on Templeton Avenue near Brunswick Street when he saw a white Acura Integra that was reported to the Pacifica P.D. as stolen earlier that afternoon. When Officer Taylor activated his patrol lights to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to yield and sped up and drove onto the freeway where a pursuit ensued. The driver lost control of his vehicle at the intersection of Victoria Street and Holloway Avenue in San Francisco and collided with a parked vehicle. Officers detained the subject, a 25-year old Daly City resident, and they found two “shaved keys” in the subject’s jacket pocket. (“Shaved keys” are burglary tools used in stealing vehicles.) Officers arrested the subject for possession of a stolen vehicle, evading a police officer, possession of burglary tools, driving without a license, and for a probation violation.

On Saturday, 01-17-15 at 7:47 p.m., Officer Karen Douglas stopped a vehicle on southbound highway 280 at the Serramonte Boulevard exit for having false tabs on the license plate. The driver, a 33-year old Brisbane resident, was cited for driving with a suspended license. The passenger, a 30-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for possession of burglary tools, drug paraphernalia, receiving stolen property and impersonating another person.

On Sunday, 01-18-15 at 8:43 p.m., Officer Karen Douglas was on patrol in the Bayshore district due to a recent increase in street robberies. Officer Douglas advised dispatch that she was either viewing a disturbance or a possible robbery taking place. Officer Douglas attempted to detain the subjects, but they took off running. Officer Tiffany Cook was able to detain one of the subjects who matched the description of one of the suspects in a prior robbery case. The subject, a 20-year old Antioch resident, was arrested for resisting/obstructing a police officer. Detectives are investigating the robbery cases.


Robberies

There were four robberies during the past week.

On Wednesday, 01-14-15 at 5:25 p.m., the Safeway store manager was a victim of a robbery via threats and force when he tried to stop three unidentified subjects for stealing baby formula. The manager reported seeing the suspects enter the store and place cans of formula into a duffle bag and then leave the store without paying for the items. The manager tried to stop the subjects after they left, and one subject threatened the manager and revealed a can of pepper spray hanging from his belt. The subjects fled in a tan colored Ford Explorer.

On Thursday, 01-15-15 at 11:01 p.m., Officer Garrett Larsen responded to the police station on a report of a “cold” robbery that occurred in the area of Geneva Avenue by the Cow Palace. The 17-year old victim from Pacifica said he was walking eastbound on Geneva Avenue passing Pasadena Street when he observed two unidentified black males cross Geneva Avenue toward him. He said the two subjects then grabbed his backpack and pulled him to the ground. At that point, the victim said two more subjects joined them. The victim said the subjects kicked him in an attempt to get his backpack and took his cell phone. The victim said one subject exposed a firearm from his waistband and pointed it at his face asking for the wallet. The victim said the subjects then were last seen running northbound on Pasadena Street toward San Francisco. This case has been referred to Detectives.

On Sunday, 01-18-15 at 1:37 a.m., a 32-year old Daly City resident reported he was the victim of a robbery via a strike to the back of his head by two subjects, one of whom was holding a replica firearm. The victim said he was walking eastbound on Geneva Avenue near Pasadena Street when two subjects came from behind him and hit him in the back of the head. The subjects took the victim’s backpack containing tennis shoes, cooking knives and clothing and left a replica firearm, a black Smith & Wesson at the scene. The victim could only describe the suspects as black males in their early 20’s. The victim was taken to Seton Hospital for treatment. Officers were unable to locate the suspects, and this case has been referred to Detectives.

On Sunday, 01-18-15 at 11:02 p.m., two Daly City residents reported they were victims of a robbery by two unknown subjects. The victims said they had just gotten off the bus and were walking home on the south sidewalk of Brunswick Street between Hillside Avenue and Chelsea Court when a black four-door vehicle pulled alongside them. The victims said an unknown subject, described as a black male, approximately 25 years old, 6’0”, skinny build, wearing a black hoodie and black pants exited the car and then held them both at gun point, stealing a cell phone, wallet, purse and miscellaneous items. The driver never got out of the vehicle. The suspect then got back into the vehicle, which sped off on Brunswick Street towards Wellington Avenue. Officers could not locate the suspects, and this case has also been referred to Detectives.


Residential Burglaries


There were five residential burglaries during the past week. An arrest was made in one case.

On Tuesday, 01-13-15 at approximately 1:00 a.m., dispatch advised officers that a resident on the 200 block of Westmoor Avenue reported a subject not known to them sleeping on their couch in their living room. The subject entered the residence via an unlocked door. The subject was also a suspect in a hit and run collision earlier and was arrested.

On Wednesday, 01-14-15 between 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., a residence on the 200 block of Acton Street was burglarized. An unknown subject forced open the front door and took three laptops, an iPad, and currency.

Between Thursday, 01-15-15 at 8:00 p.m. and Friday, 01-16-15 at 7:30 a.m., a residence on the 1000 block of Crocker Avenue was burglarized. The point of entry was via the front door and most likely with a key. The resident suspects a former tenant of stealing her Toyota Prius.

On Friday, 01-16-15 at 12:40 p.m., residents on the unit block of Bepler Street reported they were the victims of a burglary by two unknown subjects who entered via the rear garage door. One resident said she heard her doorbell ring, and she didn’t answer it. She said she went to check her mail and then saw two Hispanic subjects jumping over a gated fence. The subjects were last seen on foot in an unknown direction. There was no loss.

Between Monday, 01-12-15 at 3:00 p.m. and Sunday, 01-18-15 at 6:00 p.m., a residence on the 100 block of East Vista Avenue was burglarized. The resident said someone entered her garage and took numerous tools. This case has been referred to detectives for follow up, as the victim has an idea who committed the burglary.


Commercial Burglaries

There was one commercial burglary during the past week.

Between Sunday, 01-18-15 at 6:30 p.m. and Monday 01-19-15 at 8:45 p.m., a barbershop on the 7300 block of Mission Street was burglarized. The suspect smashed the front door with a kettle bell which had been taken in a previous commercial burglary. The loss was barbershop equipment. The suspect in this case, a 22-year old Daly City resident, was already in custody for another burglary and was also responsible for this. The equipment was later recovered.

Vehicle Burglaries

There were twelve vehicle burglaries during the past week.

• Westlake Shopping Center near Walgreen’s—a backpack containing schoolbooks was taken from a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The left rear window was smashed. Occurred on 01-12-15 between 5:40 p.m. and 6:20 p.m.
• Westlake Shopping Center near Walgreen’s—a backpack containing an Apple MacBook and an iPad was taken from a 2011 Honda Odyssey. The front passenger window was smashed. Occurred on 01-12-15 at 6:30 p.m.
• Kukje parking lot on Junipero Serra Boulevard—a bag containing a Macbook Air, books and miscellaneous electronics was taken from a 2013 Toyota Prius. The left rear window was smashed. Occurred on 01-12-15 between 6:57 p.m. and 7:07 p.m.
• Westlake Shopping Center near TJ Maxx—nothing was taken from a 2008 Nissan Versa. The left front window was smashed. Occurred on 01-12-15 between 6:00 p.m. and 6:35 p.m.
• Westlake Shopping Center near Chipotle—an empty backpack was taken from a 2012 Toyota Highlander. The front passenger window was smashed. Occurred on 01-12-15 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
• Denny’s parking lot—a backpack was taken from a 2007 Kia Sorrento. The rear passenger window was smashed. Occurred on 01-14-15 between 6:30 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. The backpack was recovered nearby.
• Lake Merced Golf & Country Club—a briefcase containing an iPad was taken from a 2012 Tesla Model S. The left rear window was smashed. Occurred on 01-14-15 between 5:30 p.m. and 7:10 p.m.
• Lake Merced Golf & Country Club—a bag containing an iPad and an iPhone was taken from a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on 01-14-15 between 5:30 p.m. and 7:10 p.m.
• Lake Merced Golf & Country Club—a backpack was taken from a 2013 Audi A6. The front passenger window was smashed. Occurred on 01-14-15 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
• 100 block of Oriente Street—unknown if anything was taken from a Honda Pilot. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred on 01-16-15 at 9:50 p.m.
• Unit block of Nancy Lane—sunglasses were taken from a 1995 Honda Civic. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred on 01-17-15 at 3:31 p.m. **A subject was arrested.
• 2300 block of Junipero Serra Boulevard—an iPhone was taken from a 2013 Toyota Prius. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred on 01-12-15 between 7:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.


Stolen Vehicles

There were four vehicles stolen during the past week. Two were recovered.

• Unit block of Blossom Court—a 2013 Ford Econoline. Occurred on 01-14-15 at 3:40 a.m. The vehicle was recovered nearby.
• 400 block of Winchester Street—a 1991 Honda CRX. Occurred between 01-16-15 at 11:30 a.m. and 01-17-15 at 7:00 a.m. **Recovered by San Francisco P.D. on 01-21-15.
• 400 block of 87th Street—a 2011 Ford Focus. Occurred on 01-15-15 between midnight and 1:00 a.m.
• Parking lot on the unit block of Hillcrest Avenue—a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle. Occurred on 01-16-15 between 11:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.

E-Waste Collection event—Westmoor High parking lot, Saturday, January 24

In partnership with GreenCitizen, a local electronic waste recycling company, the Westmoor High PTSA will be collecting electronic waste in the parking lot from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is a free drop off event. Accepted items include: computer monitors, televisions, laptops, computer equipment, UPS batteries, appliances, ink/toner cartridges, phones, stereo equipment and printers. Jefferson High School Crab Feed Fundraiser, Saturday, January 24, 2015

Jefferson High School is holding a crab feed fundraiser event at the Pacelli Gymnasium at 145 Lake Merced Boulevard on Saturday, January 24, 2015 beginning at 6:00 p.m. In addition to crab, they will be serving salad, bread, pasta with meat sauce, and dessert. There will be a silent auction, music and dancing. Pre-sale tickets are $50 each or $520 for a table of 10 (Table sales are limited.) Westmoor High School PTSA Annual 2015 Rummage Sale, Saturday & Sunday, January 24 & 25.

The Westmoor PTSA would like you to donate your gently worn clothes, shoes, jackets, purses, jewelry, toys, games, books, movies, household items, electronics, small furniture, kitchenware, decorative items such as vases, paintings and small area rugs for their annual rummage sale. They also will accept large items such as cars, pianos, boats and bikes, but would like you to provide photos first. Your donation is tax deductible. All proceeds will support their scholarship program.

The rummage sale is at the Westmoor High School Cafeteria, 131 Westmoor Avenue, Daly City from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, January 24 and 25.

Drop off for items is Friday, January 23 after 3:00 p.m. or on January 24 & 25 before 9:00 a.m. in the cafeteria.

Town Hall Meeting—Community Solutions Supporting Healthy Habits, Wednesday, January 28, 2015

The North County Prevention Partnership wants you to join them in a follow-up meeting from their first Town Hall event in April 2014. They will be exploring solutions to support healthy habits and to provide updates from their work in reducing the impact of underage alcohol and substance abuse in Daly City and Pacifica. The Town Hall meeting features guest speakers, a Q&A session, free resources, entertainment, prizes and a free dinner.
