CPD Arrests Bank Robbery Suspect during Traffic Stop

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook announces that Columbia Police officers arrested a bank robbery suspect twenty three minutes after the crime occurred.

Darrell Lee Daniels (DOB: 3-12-1977) is charged with Entering a Bank with Intent to Steal.

Daniels is accused of walking into the Wells Fargo bank located at 101 Dutch Square Boulevard shortly before noon today with the intent to steal money. He allegedly passed a note to a clerk indicating that he was armed, and demanded cash.

After stealing an undisclosed amount of money, Daniels allegedly went to a nearby fast food restaurant and demanded that employees call a taxi for him. They complied and Daniels left the area in the taxi.

The restaurant employees provided CPD with valuable information regarding Daniel’s getaway. CPD officers found the taxi in downtown Columbia and initiated a lawful traffic stop at the intersection of Huger and Senate Streets.

Daniels was found inside the taxi along with evidence from the crime. Daniels was arrested and transported to CPD HQ for questioning.

Additionally, CPD officers have recovered a significant amount of money from the robbery.

Chief Holbrook says, “I commend the officers for their tenacity on the case. An arrest made minutes after the robbery is outstanding. We appreciate the public’s vigilance in assisting CPD with the investigation. The apprehension is an example of teamwork at its best.”

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
