DUI Checkpoint Update

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Angels Camp Police Department and the Sonora Police Department conducted a joint Sobriety/Driver License checkpoint on Saturday, January 17th, 2015. The checkpoint was in the 100 block of S. Main Street in the city of Angels Camp, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and midnight.

Four-hundred and one (401) vehicles were screened during this time, and two citations were issued for driving without a driver license. Additionally, one driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. Nathan Baird, a 27-year-old North Carolina resident was arrested and booked into the Calaveras County Jail on charges related to driving under the influence of drugs and / or alcohol.

Funding for the sobriety checkpoint is provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.

The public is encouraged to call the Angels Camp Police Department at (209) 736-2567, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office dispatch center at (209) 754-6500, or 911 if they observe impaired drivers on the roadways.
