Lowest crime rate for the City of Palmdale in the past 20 years

The Palmdale Sheriff Station is very excited to announce 2014 has been the lowest crime rate for the City of Palmdale in the past 20 years.

In 1995, crime statistics indicate the rate of crime was 488.30 offenses per 10,000 residents.  In 2014, the crime stats show the rate of crime at 262.47 offenses per 10,000 residents.  Over the past 20 years the violent crime rate has decreased 45%, while the property crime rate declined 43%.  These numbers are based off Part 1 crimes which are defined by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as violent crimes against persons and property crimes.

This type of decline in crime is a vast accomplishment.  Although it was a slow and steady process many individuals played a huge part in making this a reality.  Together the citizens of Palmdale, city officials, hardworking proactive deputies and specialized teams have all played a tremendous role in the reduction of crime and prove Palmdale is a great place to reside.

The Palmdale Sheriff Station and the City of Palmdale have gone to great lengths to involve the residents by implementing community based programs.  These programs prove to have positive effects within the community.  The participation and support we receive from residents have greatly assisted in the reduction of crime here in the City of Palmdale.

Palmdale residents have done an outstanding job in preventing crime within their neighborhoods by establishing neighborhood watch groups.  Being a part of a neighborhood watch group has proven to be extremely effective in crime reduction within a neighborhood.  The City of Palmdale has over 400 neighborhood watch groups and continues to grow on a monthly basis.

Residents are helping law enforcement by reporting crime by calling the sheriff’s department and/or utilizing LA Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).  Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization led by citizens against crime and is a great resource if you wish to remain anonymous (LA Crime Stoppers is not to be used for emergency calls.)

Palmdale residents are utilizing Nixle, a resource used to deliver millions of emails and text messages from official agencies to the residents they serve.  Nixle updates residents with the latest events, news stories and wanted suspects.  Residents have assisted deputies on hundreds of occasions in identifying or locating wanted suspects by using Nixle or the department’s social media sites.

In efforts to make Palmdale residents top priority the Palmdale Sheriff Station offers many community programs.  These programs not only educate individuals on crime prevention but gives citizens a better understanding of law enforcement and how the department operates.  Palmdale Station offers a Community Academy, ride-a-longs, Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch, station tours, Explorer program, Youth Activities League (YAL), Volunteers on Patrol (VOP), Vital Intervention and Directional Alternatives (VIDA), Coffee with a Cop and many more programs that assist with community building and crime prevention.

The Palmdale Sheriff Station continuously strives to build positive relationships with the citizens of Palmdale while educating on crime prevention.  The numbers prove working together as a community can only bring a positive outlook on the City of Palmdale.

For further information on the above programs please contact Deputy Jodi Wolfe at 661-272-2520 or email [email protected]
