West Sacramento, Calif. – At approximately 12:08 a.m., Jan. 15, WSFD units were dispatched to a multi-vehicle traffic collision involving a wrong way driver on eastbound 50 between Enterprise and Harbor boulevards. While attempting to locate the accident under foggy conditions, WSFD encountered a male subject running down the middle of the freeway against traffic. As the fire truck slowed to assist, the individual scaled the moving fire truck’s exterior. The truck then pulled over to a safe stopping point. Verbal attempts to remove the subject failed as he became increasingly agitated. Fire crews attempted to restrain the subject who then violently resisted, causing injury to a firefighter. The WSPD then arrived and the subject was brought under control and taken into custody. The injured firefighter was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a head laceration before being released.

While assisting the CHP on scene of the original accident, a WSFD engine was struck by an unrelated vehicle in the fog. No injuries were reported as a result of the second collision.

Evidence of drug possession was located in the original suspect’s abandoned vehicle by the CHP.
