SUBJECT OF RELEASE: Personal Injury Crash
DATE AND TIME: Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at approximately 11:18 A.M.
LOCATION: Grow Road south of Carson City Road (M-57), Fairplain Township

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a single vehicle, roll over crash at Grow Road south of Carson City Road in Fairplain Township on Wednesday, January 14, 2015.

The investigation revealed that a 1995 Ford Ranger pickup was traveling south on Grow Road south of Carson City Road when it lost control on snow covered roads. The pickup left the road to the left, rolled down an embankment, and came to a rest on its top in a swamp. The pickup partially broke through the ice and large portion of the passenger compartment was under water. The driver, a thirty-three year old man from the Greenville area, was thrown from the vehicle. The passenger, Darain Newman a twenty-two year old female from Greenville, was able to get out of the partially submerged vehicle on her own. The Greenville area man was transported to United Memorial Hospital by Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services and later flown by Aeromed to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids with critical injuries. Newman was also transported to United Memorial Hospital by Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

The crash remains under investigation. Neither was wearing seatbelts. The driver’s name is being withheld pending notification of family members.

In addition to Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services, Sheridan Fire and Montcalm County Road Commission also assisted at the scene.
