BRITTON MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS INGEST MEDICATIONS

On January 12th, 2015, Morgan Hill Police Officer’s responded to Britton Middle School, located at 80 W. Central Avenue, to investigate the report of three juvenile females who had become nauseous after ingesting over the counter medications. Upon arrival, Officer’s discovered the three females, whose ages ranged from twelve to thirteen years old, ingested approximately twelve tablets of Coracidin. All three juvenile females were transported to Saint Louise Hospital where they received medical treatment and were later released. It was later discovered the females purchased the Coracidin from a male juvenile. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case for possible charges.

The Morgan Hill Police Department is working closely with the Morgan Hill Unified School District to implement a training and awareness program regarding Coricidin as well as other over the counter medications

Coricidin is used legitimately to treat the symptoms that typically result from colds, the common flu or upper respiratory allergies. Dextromethorphan, (a common ingredient in Coricidin), when taken in doses that dramatically exceed those recommended by physicians and pharmacists, produces hallucinations and a sense of dissociation. Hospitalizations and death have resulted in overdoses of Coricidin. Common street terms for Coricidin are: C-C-C, Cordies, Orange Crush, Red Devils, Skittles, DXM, Dex (for dextromethorphan); Vitamin D, Robo, Robo-trippin’, Candy and Robo-dosing.
