Advisory

Winter Parking Issues

A reminder to residents and visitors to be aware of regulations and your surroundings as you park your vehicles during the winter months. Two common violations that are especially prevalent in winter:

City ordinance 70.074 requires that, "No person shall permit any vehicle, over which he or she exercises control or over which he or she has the right to exercise control, to stand for more than 24 hours within any platted block along any street or alley, or upon any public place within the city."

Also, 70.072(3) states that, "It shall be unlawful for the operator of a motor vehicle to stop, stand, or park...within 25 feet of a driveway entrance to any fire station or a fire hydrant"

Keep in mind that snow can make it difficult to see curb markings, so it is even more important for motorists to survey an area for fire hydrants or other restricted areas before parking. Please take a little extra time when parking to avoid causing issues for those performing snow removal - and to avoid costly fines and vehicle towing fees.
