Two Petaluma men were arrested for stealing Christmas packages of front porches 
On 12/25/14, a man walking his dog observed a suspicious vehicle parked in a neighbor's driveway. He noticed a male get out of the car and start to take packages off the porch and put them in the vehicle. He took down the plate and called Petaluma Police. Initial checks of the neighborhoods where the theft occurred and where the vehicle was registered turned up no leads.
Several hours later, Petaluma Police located the vehicle at the home of the registered owner. When they went to speak with the two men in the driveway, one of them fled. Gregory Johnson (44 years old of Petaluma) was detained in the driveway. The other man, William Kirk Andrus, (36 years old of Petaluma) was located hiding in a shed in the rear yard.
During a search of the garage area of the house, officers located a pink motorized child's car and other items associated with the package theft on Christmas morning. Additionally they located Christmas gifts stolen off a porch in west Petaluma yesterday. They also located tools taken from another porch in west Petaluma yesterday were located. All the items were returned to their owners.
Both Johnson and Andrus were arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on charges of Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Resisting Arrest.
Officers also took property for safekeeping when Johnson couldn't explain how the items ended up in his house. Some of the items recovered were individually packaged and priced Christmas ornaments and decorations.
