Search and Rescue Team Assists with Vehicle Over the Side
At 9:20 p.m. Sunday night, the Malibu/Lost Hills Search and Rescue (SAR) and the LA County Fire Department responded to a vehicle over the side on Topanga Canyon at the "Topanga Overlook". Responders on scene quickly identified that there was a red sedan several hundred feet over the side in heavy brush and trees. Malibu SAR and Fire personnel began to search the hillside while an LASD helicopter, equipped with an infrared device, searched from the air. The helicopter crew was able to locate the heat signature of the victim, a 50 year old male from Nebraska. Rescuers were directed to his location. After evaluating him, rescuers determined that he was uninjured and ambulatory. He was evacuated using the Malibu SAR winch system (see pictures courtesy of Malibu SAR). This was the team's 96th rescue of the year.
