LOCATION: Sheridan Road near Pakes Road, Evergreen Township. ***ORIGINIAL RELEASE ***
Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a car/bicycle crash on Sheridan Road near Pakes Road in Evergreen Township on Monday, December 15, 2014 at approximately 2:21 P.M. It was reported that the car involved fled the scene.

The investigation revealed that Joseph Pruitt, age twenty-seven from Greenville, was riding his bicycle southbound on the east shoulder of Sheridan Road. A vehicle traveling north on Sheridan Road left the roadway and struck the bicyclist. The vehicle did not stop at the crash scene and continued northbound. One witness followed the suspect vehicle and was able to obtain a vehicle description and the registration plate while another witness stopped at the scene and began to administer first aid. Pruitt was transported to Sheridan Community Hospital by Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services. He was later flown by Aeromed to Spectrum in Grand Rapids where he is reported to be in serious condition.

Central Dispatch operators aired the information to the area officers. A Michigan State Police Trooper was near the home of the registered owner of the vehicle and made contact with the suspect vehicle near that location. The driver, a seventy-two year old Stanton man was arrested by Sheriff’s deputies and lodged on charges of Operating While Intoxicated Resulting In Serious Injury and Leaving The Scene Of An Injury Accident. The Stanton man is expected to be officially charged through the Prosecutor’s Office today and arraigned this afternoon.

Assisting agencies included the Montcalm County Emergency Services, the Stanton Police Department, and the Michigan State Police.

Albert Alan Ferrier, age 72 from Stanton, was arraigned today in connection with the hit and run injury accident that occurred yesterday, December 15th. Ferrier’s charges include Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Injury and Failure To Stop At The Scene Of An Accident. A $10,000.00 bond has been set and Ferrier remains behind bars. The victim Joseph Pruitt has been upgraded to good condition.
