Chula Vista Police Looking for a Kidnapping Suspect

The Chula Vista Police Department's Crimes of Violence Unit is asking for the public's assistance in identifying a suspect in a kidnapping case. On Sunday night 12/14/14 at 8:45 PM the 49-year-old female victim was walking along the sidewalk on N. Rancho Del Rey Parkway, between Del Rey Blvd and Terra Nova Drive, Chula Vista, when a unknown man approached her from behind with a handgun. He grabbed her around the neck and started to push her off the sidewalk through some bushes onto a worn dirt path along a storm drainage ditch. The victim grabbed the branches of the bushes to prevent herself from being pushed down the path and was able to break off one branch. She turned and struck the suspect several times with the branch, screaming for help. The lone male suspect ran off. The crime is considered kidnapping as she was moved several feet against her will.

The suspect is described as:

Hispanic Male
20-25 years
5’-8”
180 lbs
Clean cut with brown hair
Wearing a black t-shirt and dark pants
Weapon: black handgun

The attached suspect sketch was created based upon the victim’s statements during a composite sketch interview.

Although it is not known if the two incidents are directly related, Chula Vista Police COV Detectives are also looking for a suspect who assaulted a female with a caustic spray in the same general area about a month earlier. On 11/07/14 at 0230 hours a separate victim reported being assaulted by a lone male just outside a nearby apartment complex. This victim, a 24-year-old female, said she parked her car at 590 E. H Street after arriving home from work. She was immediately approached by a male suspect wearing a dark ski-mask. The suspect sprayed her in the face with a caustic chemical but ran off once she started screaming. She was not injured in this case. She described him as a male in his early 20’s, 5’10, and thin build.

The two locations are separated by several hundred feet but are on opposite ends of the same dirt path.

Residents are asked to be alert at night, don’t walk alone, and call police immediately if they see anyone suspicious or resembling the sketch of the suspect in the most recent incident.

Anyone with information on either case is asked to call the Crimes of Violence Unit, Detective Tony Molina (619) 691-5178.
