Advisory

We are asking for the public's assistance in locating Aaron Frye of Long Beach wanted out of Barstow

DATE/TIME: December 9th, 2014, at approximately 11:05 p.m.

INCIDENT: PC 496 - Possession of Stolen Property

LOCATION: I-15 Freeway, south of Yermo Rd, Yermo

SUSPECT(S): Aaron Frye, age 37, a resident of Long Beach

VICTIM(S): State of California

SUMMARY: On December 9, 2014, at about 11:05 p.m., a deputy from the Barstow Sheriff’s Station stopped a vehicle for displaying paper plates, in violation of California Vehicle Code 5200. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle identified himself as Aaron Frye. Frye was found to be on Post Release Communnity Supervision (Probation) for robbery in Los Angeles County. When the deputy had Sheriff’s Dispatch query the Vehicle Identification Number, the vehicle returned as stolen out of Cerritos.

The deputy detained Frye and requested a second unit before ordering Frye out of the vehicle. Frye was cooperative with the deputy and placed his hands on the steering wheel; however, for an unknown reason, Frye reached down towards the center console for an unknown object. The deputy, fearing for his safety and believing Frye had reached for a weapon, fired his service pistol at the vehicle.

Frye drove away from the traffic stop and re-entered the southbound I-15 freeway. Responding deputies located the stolen vehicle, in the number one lane of the southbound I-15 freeway about one mile north of Ghost Town Road. The vehicle had collided with a FedEx tractor trailer. The FedEx truck was over-turned on the right shoulder of the freeway. The FedEx driver sustained minor injuries and was treated and released at a local hospital. Frye fled the scene on foot into the desert area northwest of the freeway. An extensive ground and air search, utilizing patrol deputies, detectives, bloodhounds and Sheriff’s aviation did not locate Frye and he is still outstanding.

The California Highway Patrol is conducting the investigation of the traffic collision.
