GPD to participate in the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department Operation "Second Chance" 2014
The Gilroy Police Department will be participating in the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department Operation “Second Chance” through the month of December. “Those with non-violent misdemeanor criminal and traffic warrants can receive a citation with a new court date, in lieu of being booked into the County Jail.” Any bail amount, including those warrants with "no cite and release," and "no bail" may qualify.
The following warrants DO NOT qualify for this program:
• Felony warrants
• ANY warrant involving violence (including all domestic violence warrants)
• ANY warrant involving a firearm
• ANY warrant involving resisting arrest
• ANY warrant involving giving false information to a peace officer
Those qualified for this program can walk into the Gilroy Police Department’s Lobby Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
“More than 2800 people have taken advantage of the program over the past 10 years and avoided spending the holidays in jail by self-surrendering.”
