Advisory

AmeriGas UPDATE: HS Rd and bike path now open. Flaring operations complete. See email/link for details.

UPDATE 11/21/2014 12:45p - AmeriGas technicians and emergency personnel have successfully rendered the tanks on site safe through flaring operations.  Flaring is completed as crews continue to work to offload remaining propane.  High School Rd and the Bike Path have been reopened.

People who have personal property in Bell Fitness can meet emergency personnel at the south end of the Smith's Grocery parking lot today (11/21) at 3:00pm to retrieve their personal belongings.  Those that have vehicles that were not destroyed can report to the Bell Fitness Parking Lot to retrieve their vehicles at any time.

Those that have vehicles that were destroyed in the explosion are asked to contact Teton County Emergency Operations Center at 307-733-9572 at their earliest convenience.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE 11/21/2014 10:36AM - Local emergency services and AmeriGas technicians will be working today (11/21) on safely removing the gas from compromised tanks at the AmeriGas facility.  This process involves a technique called "flaring", where technicians will burn off the remaining gas in the tanks in order to render them safe.  The public can expect to see flames and smoke in the area of AmeriGas and should not be concerned unless you receive further information from local officials.  This flaring process may take an upwards of 5 hours to safely dispose of the gas.

There are no evacuation orders or shelter-in-place advisories in place for the flaring operation, but the public is asked to stay clear of this area.  Getting too close to the flaring operation can be extremely dangerous.  For this reason, High School Rd from S Highway 89 to Gregory Ln is closed, as well as the bike path behind Smith's/AmeriGas.  Schools, businesses, and residences in the area are safe and do not need to evacuate or shelter in place at this time.  Please do not call 9-1-1 to report the flaring, and only use 9-1-1 if you have an emergency.
