Vehicle Pursuit Ended in the Arrest of Two Violent Felons

On November, 05, 2014, at 12:23 PM, Morgan Hill Officers responded to the 16900 block of Monterey Road on a report of people fighting in the parking lot over a possible hit and run. During the investigation it was determined that Suspects Carmen Tellez, (20) year old female and Miguel Angel Mejia, (18) year old male, both out of San Jose were caught in the act of attempting to steal a vehicle by the vehicle’s owner.

The owner of the vehicle confronted Mejia while he was tampering with the vehicle’s ignition. Suspect Tellez, was waiting nearby in a different stolen vehicle when the owner attempted to stop the theft. Seeing this happen Tellez used her vehicle to intentionally ram the victim’s vehicle twice, forcing the victim to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.

Mejia jumped out of the victim’s vehicle and got into the passenger seat of Tellez’s vehicle and fled the area. A Morgan Hill Officer observed the vehicle leaving the area and attempted an enforcement stop; however, Tellez failed to yield and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit came to end in San Jose, at the intersection of Monterey Road and Roeder Road, when the suspect vehicle collided with several another vehicles. Mejia and Tellez fled on foot from the collision scene, however, both captured a short time later by MHPD Officers.

Tellez was wanted on a $150,000 warrant and she was additionally of Assault with a deadly weapon, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Felony Evading Attempting to Steal a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Burglary tools, Resisting Arrest, Conspiracy, Hit and Run, and a gang enhancement. Mejia was wanted on a no-bail warrant and was charged with Attempting to Steal a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Possession of Burglary tools, Resisting Arrest, Conspiracy, and a gang enhancement. Both Tellez and Mejia were later booked in Santa Clara County Jail for the above stated charges.
