The Upper Macungie Township Police Department has an important message for you! *Message from the Chief of Police*

Dear Upper Macungie Township Residents,

At this moment, I would be willing to bet that the youth of Upper Macungie Township are having sugar cravings.

Tonight, at 6:00 pm, Upper Macungie Township will officially kick off its 2014 trick-or-treat festivities. This year, I am writing specifically to those of you that will be driving throughout the township this evening.

Protecting the residents of this township is your police department’s number one priority. This evening, I ask you to make that same pledge as you navigate through your neighborhood streets. Although we ask that children stay on sidewalks and off of the roadways, there will be times when children will be crossing the roads or even drifting away from their parents (kids will be kids, right?). This is why it is so very important that you drive with the utmost caution. Take extra time when leaving your home to arrive at your destination. Double check your mirrors and tap your horn when backing out of your driveway. Perhaps, most importantly, use common courtesy when encountering children and parents in the streets and be patient.

Parents, I speak for all of our officers when I say that we wish you and your children a great time tonight. We have added extra staffing of uniformed officers to ensure that our residents are safe and that traffic laws are strictly enforced.

Of course, if you encounter any emergencies please do not hesitate to contact 911. Non- emergencies can also be reported by calling Lehigh County Communications at 610-437-5252.

Thank you, and as always, be well and be safe.

Respectfully,

Edgardo A. Colón
Chief of Police
