UPD is investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed an 11 year old boy walking to school. Suspect Captured!

On Thursday October 23, 2014, shortly before 8 am, an 11 year old boy was struck by a car at the intersection of Arrow Highway and Benson Avenue. The boy was walking to school at Cabrillo Elementary School located a short distance away. Witnesses to the accident called 9-1-1 and 1st Responders, including the Upland Police Department, arrived on scene within 2 minutes. The child had suffered severe trauma as a result of the accident. He was treated at the scene and transported to San Antonio Community Hospital but tragically passed away from his injuries.

The vehicle that struck the boy made no attempt to stop after the accident and fled eastbound on Arrow Highway. Upland Police investigators have identified this car as a white Jeep Cherokee, similar to a 2008 model. A gray pickup truck was identified as following the Cherokee as well. The Upland Police Department Traffic Division is currently conducting the investigation.

The Upland Police Department is asking any witnesses to this incident, particularly the driver of the gray pick-up truck to contact the U.P.D. Traffic Division at 909-946-7624

*******UPD has captured the suspect in this mornings hit-and-run traffic collision. A Victorville resident saw news reports of the incident and recognized the suspect vehicle as on he had rented for his son. He subsequently found out his son had loaned it to another young man. UPD located the suspect and took him into custody*******
