National School Bus Safety Week
This week is “National School Bus Safety Week”—a time when school bus safety is promoted. It is an excellent way for parents, students, teachers, motorists, school bus operators, school administrators, law enforcement agencies and other interested parties to join forces and address the importance of school bus safety. This week DCPD Traffic Units will be conducting a “School Bus Safety Detail” along school bus routes throughout the City. Officers will be looking for drivers who are not following the vehicle codes that specify for drivers to stop when there is a flashing red light signal displayed on the bus. Fines can be up to $500 for this violation. In this morning’s operation, officers issued two citations for not stopping behind a school bus and two citations for having suspended driver's licenses.
