GTPD Media Release: Drug Raid Yields Significant Quantity of Pills and MDMA

Gloucester Township Police Media Release: Drug Raid Yields Significant Quantity of Pills and MDMA

The Gloucester Township Police Department Special Investigations Unit recently concluded a thorough investigation into the sale of Controlled Dangerous Substances in Gloucester Township. This is a continued effort in addressing the national problem of drug abuse, more specifically prescription pills. Oxycodone Hydrochloride is a highly addictive drug where addiction use has been associated with crime because many addicted people turn to theft, prostitution, and various other criminal activities to obtain money to buy the drug. The Gloucester Township Police Department has implemented a number of initiatives and programs to combat this growing abuse of prescription pills.

During the months of September and October, a local drug dealer was the focus of a prolonged police investigation. Tyryn C. Russell, a 34 year old male from the 100 block of La Cascata in Gloucester Township, was reported to be distributing Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS), specifically prescription pills. Information was received that Russell was distributing significant quantities of pills, specifically Oxycodone Hydrochloride 30 mg from his residence in the residential neighborhood of La Cascata, Gloucester Township. On 10-11-2014, the Gloucester Township Special Investigations Unit, Juvenile Unit, and Special Response Team executed a search warrant on the 100 block of La Cascata Gloucester Township. A significant quantity of prescription pills including oxydocone, suboxone, endocet alprazolam, amphetamines, methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) also known as “Mollies”, a significant amount of cash, and numerous packaging materials were recovered from inside the residence. Russell was charged with Distribution of CDS (2nd degree), Distribution of CDS (3rd degree), Possession of CDS (3rd degree), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (disorderly persons). He was remanded in default of $75,000.00 full cash bail.

An adult female and three juvenile children were inside the residence. The Gloucester Township Police Department’s Juvenile Unit which included a specially trained Detective and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker was immediately on hand to offer counseling services to the mother and juvenile children. The New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency were notified as well. The woman was released without charges.
The arrest of this individual is another example of the continued enhanced criminal enforcement campaigns targeting those who illegally distribute narcotics in Gloucester Township. The Gloucester Township Police Department will continue to attack the abuse and sale of these highly addictive narcotics in our community.
