On October 9th, 2014, The Amsterdam Police Department conducted a license check at 171 East Main Street, operating as the Impala Club. Several reports had been received that the club was selling alcohol without a proper license from the NY State Liquor Authority. Detectives and uniformed officers entered the club and observed several patrons drinking in the bar area of the business, while checking the rear area of the club an individual was observed outside on a cell phone and drinking from a cup, officers identified themselves and while speaking to the subject he attempted to flee and was detained for the open container violation. The subject became combative and was restrained by officers and during a pat down search was found to be in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine, weighing approximately ten grams, an illegal gravity knife and $368 in US Currency. The defendant was arrested and charged with the following:


MICHAEL CASSEUS, AGE 25, LKA OF 15 DETROIT AVE., TROY.
CRIMINAL POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE 3RD DEGREE, A CLASS B FELONY, FOR THE POSSESION OF THE CRACK COCAINE;

CRIMINAL POSSESSION OF A WEAPON 3RD DEGREE, A CLASS D FELONY, FOR THE POSSESSION OF THE GRAVITY KNIFE BY A PERSON PREVIOUSLY CONVICTED OF A CRIME.

Casseus will be arraigned, in Amsterdam City Court before the Hon. Howard Aison, on October 10th.

The investigation, into the illegal sales of alcohol at the Impala Club, is continuing and Alcoholic Beverage Control Law charges are possible against the owner for operating an unlicensed establishment.
