Palmdale Detective Matt Pereida takes the Super Middleweight Title at the "Battle of the Badges"

The Palmdale Sheriff Station is very proud to announce one of their very own detectives, Matt Pereida, won the Super Middleweight title at the “Battle of the Badges”, which took place on Friday, September 26,2014, at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello.

“The Battle of the Badges” is a fundraiser/boxing event where several individuals from many Southern California agencies box for the title. Agencies who participated in this challenging boxing event were the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Orange County Sheriff’s Department and Santa Monica Fire Department.  The proceeds go to the USMC Devil Pups, Sheriff’s Youth Activities League/ Boxing and the LASD Boxing Team.

Detective Matt Pereida, a nine year veteran of LASD, ranked number one in his division which qualified him at a shot at the title.  On the night of the event Matt stepped into the ring with LAPD boxer Aurelio Vasquez.  After three, two minute rounds, Matt took the title after a unanimous decision!!

Detective Matt Pereida commented on his great accomplishment by thanking many individuals who helped him achieve his goals as well as the Super Middleweight title - “I would like to give special thanks to Hervi Estrada, Johnny Rosas, my sparring partners Jose Mejia and Humberto “Tito” Loza Jr., AV Boxing Academy as well as the LASD Boxing Team, Mike Young, Hank, my lovely wife Sofia and most of all GOD for blessing my life!”

Matt has been boxing for over three years and trains with Hervi Estrada and Johnny Rosas at AV Boxing Academy, in the City of Palmdale.
