Important information on recent home invasions in Grosse Pointe Woods.

On Monday, October 6, 2014, a home invasion was reported on Norwood. Responding officers received credible information from a witness describing two male suspects and two separate vehicles. Based upon the observations of the resident a broadcast was put out to area agencies assigned to the Home Invasion Task Force. This Task Force includes members of the Grosse Pointes, Harper Woods and the ACTION TEAM (Auto Theft Task Force).

Based upon previously developed information, officers immediately responded to an area in the City of Detroit where the suspects were known to frequent and drop off property taken in home invasions. The vehicles described by the witness were observed arriving at the location by officers, with the suspects removing property from the vehicles and entering the location.

Additional officers were requested and the suspects were taken into custody with their vehicle being impounded. The location was then secured while a search warrant was obtained to enter the home. Subsequently four additional suspects were taken into custody at the location. Investigators retrieved stolen property including electronics, jewelry and two additional vehicles one of which was reported to be stolen.

Detectives are currently working on obtaining warrants charging the suspects with a range of criminal offenses including home invasion and possession of stolen property which includes the stolen vehicle.
Only through the collaborative effort of our community and police departments would these subjects have been arrested.

I would like to thank the Harper Woods Police Department and their investigators, the other Grosse Pointe Police agencies and the ACTION Team composed of the Detroit Police, Wayne County Sheriff, Grosse Pointe Park Police and the Harper Woods Police.

I would like to thank our residents for their observations and information and our own investigators, officers and dispatchers for their dedication in the investigation of these cases. They have all worked together to make our communities safe.

I continue to urge the community to be vigilant in their observations and report anything suspicious to the Grosse Pointe Woods Department of Public Safety @ 313-343-2400 or 911 if you feel the situation calls for it.
