Big Bear City- Deputies Arrest Suspect for Possession of a Large Quantity of Methamphetamine Following a Traffic Stop

INCIDENT: Felony Arrest for Possession of Narcotics for Sale
LOCATION: North Shore Dr./Mound St., Big Bear City
SUSPECT: Daniel Vanbuskirk, 53-year-old WMA
VICTIM: People of the State of California
SUMMARY:
On Wednesday, September 17, 2015 at approximately 5:15 p.m., Deputy Ferronato of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station conducted a traffic stop for tailgating near the intersection of North Shore Drive and Mound Street in Big Bear City. The driver of the vehicle, Daniel Vanbuskirk, was found to be driving on a suspended license. As Deputy Ferronato was searching Vanbuskirk prior to arresting him, a large quantity of methamphetamine was found on Vanbuskirk’s person. Vanbuskirk resisted arrest, initiating a fight with Deputy Ferronato. Additional deputies arrived on scene to assist Deputy Ferronato. Vanbuskirk was tased and taken into custody without further incident. Cash and packaging consistent with drug sales was found in Vanbuskirk’s vehicle.
Two deputies received minor injuries as a result of the fight with Vanbuskirk. Both deputies were treated at Bear Valley Community Hospital and have returned to work.
Suspect Daniel Vanbuskirk was booked into the Big Bear Jail on felony charges of resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance for sale. He remains in custody in lieu of $50,000. An arraignment hearing in this matter is set for September 19, 2014 at San Bernardino County Superior Court.
