Red Oak ISD and city of Red Oak to Hold Mock Disaster Drill

On Friday, October 3, 2014, Red Oak ISD and the City of Red Oak will participate in a Mock Disaster Scenario at Red Oak Junior High located at 154 Louise Ritter Blvd. in Red Oak, Texas. The Red Oak ISD Police Department, Red Oak Fire Department and Red Oak Police Department will activate emergency operations plans during the Mock Disaster Scenario with the purpose of testing emergency preparedness and hone security capabilities of the Red Oak Independent School District and the community at large.

A community meeting to discuss the mock disaster will be held on Tuesday, September 23 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Red Oak High School Performing Arts Center located at 220 S. Hwy 342 in Red Oak. Officials from Red Oak ISD, Red Oak Fire and Red Oak Police Departments will share information regarding the mock disaster and field questions.

Previously, Red Oak ISD held Mock Disaster Scenarios in 2001, 2006 and 2011. Each time, the district and local agencies worked together to test emergency plans. The 2014 drill has an affected area that includes Red Oak Junior High and its surrounding neighborhoods as well as areas of downtown Red Oak near the railroad tracks. Do not be alarmed to see fire, police and emergency workers in these areas on Oct. 3 as each will respond as if it were a real disaster.

“We are fortunate to work and live in a community where multiple agencies will work together to increase the preparedness and operational readiness of our service delivery. This exercise draws everyone’s attention to school safety, and local preparedness capabilities which is clearly our top priority,” said Red Oak Fire Chief Eric Thompson. “It is our job to prepare for the unthinkable. I want to thank the Red Oak City Council and City Management for their support of our proactive preparedness efforts and initiatives.”
