Child Passenger Safety Week September 14th-20th
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has designated September 14 through September 20 as the "Child Passenger Safety Week" throughout the nation.
The California Highway Patrol places the highest priority on keeping our children safe. Vehicle collisions are the leading cause of death of children aged 1 through 13. In 2012 alone, over 121,000 children were injured as passengers in car crashes. In that same year, car seats were found to have saved an estimated 284 lives. An additional 58 children would have lived if every child was properly restrained in a car seat.
The CHP offers free car seat inspections at each of their Area Offices. Inspections are by appointment (http://www.ots.ca.gov/child_passenger_safety.asp), and can be scheduled for any day of the week during business hours.
