Water Department Scam Alert!

On Friday, 09-12-14 at 11:15 a.m., a male subject approached an elderly homeowner in Daly City and identified himself as a waste water employee. The suspect advised the homeowner that he wanted to check if there was any rust in the pipes of her home. The resident said the man was very courteous and examined the water pipes inside of the house. After about 30 minutes, the suspect left. The victim later discovered a safe deposit box containing cash and jewelry was missing from her bedroom closet.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male between 35-40 years old, approximately 6’0 tall, medium build, short dark hair and a clean shaven face. He was wearing yellow sunglasses, dark work-type clothing and an identification tag around his neck. He was also carrying two “walkie talkies” and paperwork. The victim believes there was a second suspect inside her home who took the property while the primary suspect acted as s distraction. Please be advised that our Water and Wastewater Resources Department employees will NOT approach residents and ask to enter the home without first receiving a request form the resident. DO NOT let the “employee” in your house.
